5 Steps to Jumpstart Your Purpose

God told me to write over 20 years ago. I must admit, I was so overwhelmed by the writing process at that time, I focused on everything but writing. As I was seeking direction from God regarding my business this past year, He told me to, “just write,” and I finally said yes to His instructions. God extended me the grace I needed to tie up loose ends, and by that July, I began to focus solely on writing. Since I fully committed and said yes, I’ve been hired for a number of freelance writing assignments, I’ve had my articles featured in major publications, and I’ve been invited to speak at a number of events.

What has God called you to do? What purpose driven mission has He called you to fulfill?

Don’t be like me and put it off. For years, I allowed fear and my inability to see how things would work out to hinder me from pursuing my purpose driven endeavors. Don’t get stuck in the paralysis of analysis. Step out and do something towards your goal.

God has called and purposed you to do something but there is a part that you play and a part that God plays. Each day, choose to do your part. Here are 5 ways to help you get started:

  • Research: What do you need in order to fulfill your call? Begin to research the industry affiliated with your call, discover the resources you need to succeed, and seek out industry experts as mentors or coaches to help you along the way.

  • Count the Cost: How much money will you need to fulfill your mission? Create a list of your monetary needs, determine your budget, and define your financial projections (e.g. income and cash flow statement, balance sheet, and other financial ratios)

  • Help: What help do you need in order to make this a reality? Determine the areas where you need assistance. Create a job description for those key areas. Look for individuals to assist you. When starting out, consider hiring a college student or high school student on summer break as a non-paid or low paid intern.

  • Get in the Game: What you focus on grows. I see so many people touting their jobs and other things but not showcasing or bragging on their purpose. When you begin to put your purpose endeavors in the forefront of your mind, you will see a shift in your mindset. You will become more purpose-minded. As such, you will begin to look for opportunities which will help your purpose-driven endeavors grow.

  • No More Excuses: We make excuses to avoid facing our fears. As you begin to make small steps towards fulfilling your mission, the fear will quickly dissipate. Choose to do at least one thing a day towards achieving your goals. By doing so, your actions will remove the fear and build your faith.

  • No more sitting on the sidelines: It’s time for you to get in the game. It’s time to do the work and make your purpose-driven endeavors a reality!

Until next time, remove the fear and walk in your victory!
